New At Nourishing Bethesda, December 2022

Friends of Nourishing Bethesda,

In this Issue:

  • Thanks to You, We Met Our Match!

  • New Holiday Giveaways for December

  • Appreciation for Our Thanksgiving Special Event

  • Group Volunteer Opportunities

We Met Our Match!

You did it!! Thanks to the amazing generosity of donors like you, Nourishing Bethesda has met the #GivingTuesday $10,000 matching donation challenge offered by catering company Simply Fresh Events. Simply Fresh is donating $10,000 to match the first $10,000 dollars Nourishing Bethesda successfully raised since Giving Tuesday on November 29. We took advantage of every potential matching dollar to double our impact as we help our neighbors in need. The $20,000 will take a big bite out of food insecurity in the Bethesda area!

December Holiday Giveaways

NB is partnering once again with civic and business groups to provide our clients with a little something extra to brighten their holiday season. Our Thanksgiving food giveaways were a big hit with clients. In the upcoming weeks, returning clients with advance appointments will receive:

• Warm hats, scarves, gloves, socks, and gift cards courtesy of the Bethesda Chamber of Commerce

• Holiday pies thanks to Compass/Sison Homes

Shout Outs for NB’s Thanksgiving Giveaway

“The Spirit of Thanksgiving is alive and well in Montgomery with neighbors helping neighbors.” That’s what County Executive Marc Elrich had to say following his visit to Nourishing Bethesda on Nov 18. “I want to thank groups like [NB], their sponsors, and volunteers for being a true inspiration this holiday season and throughout the year.” You can read the rest in the Executive’s November 23 weekly blog post.

On Nov 22, one of Bethesda Beat’s headlines read: “Nourishing Bethesda leads donations of Thanksgiving meals for needy families”. Check out the full story.

Third Thursday Group Volunteering Opportunities

Nourishing Bethesda is now welcoming groups to volunteer on the third Thursday of every month from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the BCC Rescue Squad. These popular events provide a fun team-building opportunity for up to 15 people to give back together by helping pack bags of shelf-stable groceries, produce, and bagels for our clients. If you would like to sign up your business, civic, social, or student group, please contact NB Volunteer Coordinator Cathy Higgins at Cathy@NourishingBethesda.org. Next available opening is the third Thursday of April 2023.

Many thanks to the families from Milton Gottesman Jewish Primary Day School who came to help us pack on November 17. The BCC Rescue Squad was abuzz with activity and excitement. Not only did the students have fun and work hard, they also learned about food insecurity and its impact on their community. We look forward to welcoming them back in the Spring!

Next up are members of Metro Bethesda Rotary Club. We’ll welcome our Rotary partners to do the food packing on December 15. Rotary’s consistent, long-term support is a great asset to NB and its clients.

Happy Holidays!

As 2022 comes to an end, we want to thank you for your support and many contributions throughout the year to the mission of Nourishing Bethesda and the well-being of our clients. NB wishes you and yours a holiday season filled with joy and abundance. We look forward to engaging with our NB community in 2023!
