A Bountiful Thanksgiving

Nourishing Bethesda—along with its business and faith partners—has made sure that the most needy in our community will enjoy a bountiful Thanksgiving dinner this year.  Together they distributed very special Thanksgiving giveaways on November 10/11 and 17/18 to all Nourishing Bethesda (NB) clients with appointments, as well as to NB offsite clients.

On November 18, NB was joined by several special guests who helped distribute meals and got to see our operations up close:

  • Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich

  • Special Assistant to the County Executive Charles L. Short

  • County Council President Gabe Albornoz

  • Director of the B-CC Regional Services Center Pete Fosselman

  • Health and Human Services Senior Planner Patrick Campbell

“Nourishing Bethesda continues to be a shining example of professionalism and compassion,” noted Mr. Campbell.

For most of us, Thanksgiving is a time of abundance, but it can be an especially difficult time for Nourishing Bethesda’s clients, whose lives are defined by scarcity. A surprising number of those who live and work in Bethesda struggle to feed their families week in and week out. Buying food for a holiday dinner is simply out of the question.

In addition to receiving their usual shelf-stable groceries, fresh produce, and eggs, more than 1,500 of Nourishing Bethesda’s clients—including over 800 kids and seniors—also received all the fixings for a great holiday meal:

  • Simply Fresh Catering donated plump roasting chickens to anchor the feast. Chicken remains our recipients’ favorite, even over turkey!

  • The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from the Bethesda and Potomac wards provided each family with a roasting pan, gravy, stuffing, rolls, and other fixings.

  • To top it off, Sunrise Senior Living supplied tasty pies, and to go with that pie, Chesapeake Bay Roasting Company donated fair trade coffee.

  • To keep those warm feelings going, clients took home nearly 200 new or gently used warm coats collected by members of the growing Nourishing Bethesda community.

None of this was possible without NB’s tremendously dedicated volunteers, who were joined on Nov 18 by volunteers and senior sponsors from each of our partner organizations to hand out food and coats.

We appreciate and applaud the generosity of so many who made this special event possible. Many recipients left with big smiles!
